Of course you can change it yourself if you have a shop/garage with a lift, an oil catch can and the neccessary tools. Even if you have money you may not have all of those handy, but yes, even a Murci is still just a car like any other. The price tag on service on these is a joke. Its like 30% work and material and 70% extra for the "expensive car fee".

What happens when you don't gap the spark plugs? I don't remember doing that when I installed some iridiums in my 944, what would be different if you forget to do it?

The gap is important because it gives the ideal amount of spark for the optimumal combustion rate. Wider or narrower gap makes less ideal spark that can result in a drop in performance.

Here's something I used to do on my street race cars. I would wait for a dark night and position my car away from any light. I would wait until my eyes got max open and then start my engine and look at the plug wires. I was looking for spark leaks to ground. It's amazing what you might see. I was looking at my 63 Vette with pretty new Delco plug wires and there was a little lightning bolt going from a wire to a heater hose. With old wires you can have a light show all over the place and that's not good.

Antifreeze is not sweet anymore manufacturers are required by law since the early 90s to make it unpalatable because people were getting murdered with antifreeze

6:57 Well that's not really correct, but this one will mainly only happen because of bad handling: The core can break, causing a bad/none spark when they aren't warm yet, as they warm up the core will expand a few 0,01mm and the contact and therefor the spark will be good
Old sparkplugs will also have wear, in the form of *very slowly* smelting the iron "arm" away, cause to far a gab. This will put the ignition system under stress and in bad cases cause bad ignition of the fuel = loss of power. But we're talking 150-200.000km (90-140,000 miles) between changes on a regular cars

Nooooo!!! You don't gap platinum or iridium spark plugs!! All you did was knock off the little tiny bit of iridium that was on the tip of the electrode!!! Turning it basically back into a copper plug..

The only reason the initial gap would be off is if, 1. The plastic/cardboard gap protector was not present during shipping, or 2. You dropped it on concrete.

Chris Peterson: They still have to be gapped. If gapping knocks off the iridium (or platinum for that matter) they will never withstand the rigors of "sparkplug life". The initial gap should never be trusted.

Just fyi spark plugs are way more than on and off. There are different heat ranges. Some provide bigger/ stronger spark than others. Turbo cars use a "colder" spark than a high compression engine would. Also a different plug is needed for different fuels such as gas, e85, alcohol, methanol etc.

when you have a tube leading to a very expensive part and it has a double nut, use two wrenches or you will be replacing said expensive part. Not two the way you were but the correct way, one on each nut. "edit"Just in case you are dumber than I thought, two wrenches when you are tightening too.

Typically a gallon of coolant costs around 10-15 dollars if you get it pre-mixed or not. Usually the same brand has either 50/50 or concentrate and both are usually the same price. Unless the 50/50 mix is half the price of the concentrate you are taking roughly 5.00-7.50 depending on the brand of course and flushing it down the toilet.

Anyone can measure out 1/2 gallon of concentrate antifreeze and 1/2 gallon of water which makes the concentrate go twice as far. You either have to be really lazy or just not know any better. Just buy the concentrate and measure it out. Some brands are around 20+ dollars, that can lead to big savings allowing for a cheap part to be upgraded to a better quality part, or fund another part that is needed altogether, or even just other basic expenses.

                                                                              • John Smith

Love the can do attitude and enjoy following your Chanel. Not going to point out anything as I'm sure its been covered. Just wanted to comment to reccomend the new anti strip 3/8 hex bits from MAC tools. The metric and imperial set ran me about $120 Canadian so less for you I would think. They are amazing! Will not strip the most stubborn hex bolts and will actually remove already stripped ones. I wish I could have teleported you one for those drain plugs! Saved my ass a few times already! And the oil tank drain plug... Jesus man! Give your wrench a tap with a hammer! Don't brute force it like that. Impact will free it up, leverage will break it my man. Keep up the good work
