AIO water coolers seem to be all the rage, but we're here to tell you that big air coolers are where it's at. Probably.

I ended up switching to the Thermaltake Engine 27 after my AIO died on me. Best move I ever made. Unbelievably quiet and efficient.

I always make sure my temp is around 28-36 idle and 40-55 while gaming... not exceeding... How do you do it? buy a good cpu cooler and highquality thermal paste

I hate adding my 2 cents to this but part of the problem with water cooling has to do with the block itself. How much heat can be transferred from the CPU to the block and how much heat can be transferred from the block to the water is directly proportional to the surface area of the block in contact with the CPU and the surface area of the block in contact with the water. Since the surface area of the water block in contact with the CPU is pretty much fixed the same as it would be in an air cooling rig what has to be played with is the surface area that the water comes into contact with. In a single layer block that is limited. It is also not as simple as simply stacking water blocks, since you have to be able to transfer heat through one water block into the other water block and you don't want the water to be doing the heat transfer from one block to another. Heat pipes in air cooled setups increase the effective surface area of the transfer and the same needs to be done in water cooling. The radiator is less of an issue than the water block as the size of the radiator can be increased relatively easily. The gist is that you either need two water blocks with the one in contact with the CPU having more metal to transfer to the second water block or a thicker water block that is constructed so as to allow heat to transfer through the metal farther, possibly something like a V grooved water channel where the point of the V is pointing to the CPU if that makes sense. This would allow the heat to be drawn further up the water block giving more surface area for the water to pull the heat away from the water block. I guess another answer would be to use heat pipes between to connect water blocks. I really don't understand why the water block manufacturers are fixated on such small water blocks. Just making the water block twice as thick with a narrower channel would allow the same water flow but more heat transfer, maybe not twice as much heat transfer but still more.

You never clarified whether you were using the same exact CPU and thermal paste for the test. Theres a significant gap in credibility of the test if you arent. when I say same exact, I mean taking the cooler off the cpu and putting the next cooler on after each test.

The big difference is the noctua fans, they offer much better performance with lower sound levels compared to anything else around. So really the test is "really good water cooling with average fans" VS. "Really good fans with average heatsink". If you were to opt to use the noctua fans with the water cooling loop, you are practically guaranteed to get results that are much better. Im disappointed that they didnt test this.

Think of it like an engine...
Air cooled engines don't disperse the heat as evenly, majority of the heat building up along the firewall because the poor air flow, resulting in some cylinders running hotter than others.
Now for water cooled engines, they're more expensive/pain in the ass to repair, but it evenly disperse the heat through the engine, evenly cooling each cylinder, in turn consistent operating temperatures, in result giving better fuel economy.

I always add some self build stabilisators to air coolers, and if i woud go warter cooling woud always go with custom cooling and a readiator taken form an engine cooler form a load power were.

Don't play german heavy tanks when you yust started because they are underpovered (mid tier ones).

Love the channel Linus YOU ARE "THE MAN!". I'd advise, as a fan, stop the poor people disses. Poor people like computers too and they can hear the diss. It's like the time you upgraded your gaming beast with parts (top of the line parts that you got; for all apparent purposes FREE). It should be noted that you work your azz off providing content and reviewing products and just doing cool stuff with things your viewers may not have access to so there is plenty 'o work involved in what it is you do that affords you these luxuries. The point is, the less fortunate find it hard to see anything from someone else's perspective because after the video is over they go back to their reality. Just making an observation because you seem to care, but the passive disses are still there saying LOUDLY, that you actually don't.

Yeah I don't think that whoever designed water-cooling as a "95% soundless cooling option" accounted for noise cancelling headphones. Seems like a fair oversight. Albeit I think that if it gets cheaper enough, which I doubt because air cooling is inherently just more simple, then it'll get more mainstream around the world.
But I think it'll stay as it is (an alternative form of cooling for people who like its looks) until

Went from a full blown WC loop in my old Obsidian 800D with 360+240 to a NZXT H500 with the NH-D14
The change was needed as the loop got old and clogged, of course it was one hell of a ride, tinkering with it, great performance. But down the line, getting close to moving, I wanted to downgrade.
In the end, it has become a slight upgrade. To me, it was a change very much needed. I never moved that full tower beast, and I were not comfortable with the idea of moving it with the loop in mind.

Custom water loop does indeed need maintenance, at least once a year, I started to neglect that, as the loop had no quick connects for drain or even the money and energy anymore.
One day I might get back to it. But for now, Noctua has proven another realm of cooling for me. It's much cooler, and much more silent.

I even managed to fit a E-ATX board in the H500, and with a millimeter to spare, the NH-D14.

Tho I must say, I did equip the top exhaust fan at the top, to the outside, with a fan guard and just disconnected the header and lined them through the fan grill.
Kinda like I did with the 800D for a push/pull config. Looks a little bit shabby, but does the job quite well.

because the heatsink is too small..that's why the noctua cooler is so big. You also need enough heatpipes. You can modify your laptop heatsink if you are into it, but for start just use liquid metal thermal paste and you will see huge difference. Also time to clean the junk.

Wouldn't the heat from the GPU worsen the performance of aircooler blocks, and water coolers with top positioned radiators, but not affect front radiator watercoolers. So what's whit that? Would the aircooler still outpreform watercoolers then?

I have a Thermaltake 360 Water Cooler and honestly I didn't see much lower temps than the air cooler I used (can't remember what make, cost around the same) but what I've done now is replace the 3 fans + brought 3 extra fans (for a push pull) these are 6 Noctua 120mm 3000rpm fans (+KingPin thermal paste). I am able to put 1.575v through a ryzen7 2700x and get 75*c. yes thats a stupid amount of voltage but it proves the point in cooling. try doing that with any air cooler. granted it sounds like I have a jet in my room, but with noise cancelation on headphones + mic for recording/streaming, legit noise is not noticable.

this is just my experiance with cooling and I love to mess around with overclocking. I know the price is crazy but you would only worry about cooling if your overclocking in the first place so xD

I have found when using them they crank keep the pump speed really low and that results in a much higher core temp. Where as if you crank up the pump speed the cooling performance is much improved about 10°f without any added sound and without ramping up the fan speed

Loving alot of your videos and how you represent each product. But the truth is, I couldn't see a shred of appreciation for the other "lower" products. You're not even presenting the different products, you're simply trying to state that "this one" is the best! Isn't the point of you starting a youtube channel was to actually inform and help those who wanted to learn?

Listen man, I really love what you do! But please man, don't be disrespectful to the other companies who actually poured their hearts and soul into making their machines. The engineers still tried their hardest. :)

I feel like one advantage of liquid cooling that isn't mentioned is that it can pump your CPU heat right out the top or back without blowing hot air throughout the interior of your case. If your case isn't properly ventilated, an air cooler could spin as fast as it likes and just keep recirculating its own hot air. A liquid cooler blows the hot air outside the case immediately, which I think is an advantage worth mentioning.
